Jannik Sinner reached his first US Open semi-final after defeating Daniil Medvedev on Thursday, September 5, at Arthur Ashe Stadium. The match was a thrilling contest that had the crowd on the edge of their seats, but it was Sinner who triumphed with a score of 6-2, 1-6, 6-1, 6-4.

Sinner began strongly, taking the first set 6-2. However, Medvedev responded with a dominant performance in the second set, winning 6-1. The match, featuring the Australian Open 2024 finalists, was expected to be another extended battle, with the crowd anticipating another five-set thriller between these two stars.

The momentum shifted frequently throughout the match. Sinner showcased his skill in the third set, breaking Medvedev twice and winning the set after Medvedev hit several forehand errors. Drawing on his recent quarter-final victory over Sinner at Wimbledon, Medvedev managed to hold his first three serves in the fourth set.

Sinner, however, maintained his composure and seized the lead by breaking Medvedev’s serve, capitalizing on another forehand error by the fifth seed. Medvedev ended the match with a total of 57 unforced errors, while Sinner claimed his sixth win over the Russian. Sinner concluded the match with a decisive forehand winner, eliminating the 2021 champion and advancing to the semi-finals.

Post-match, Sinner, the Australian Open champion, acknowledged the challenges posed by the game.

“It was very tough. We know each other quite well. We played in Australia and London this year. We knew it would be very physical. It was strange the first two sets because whoever made the first break started to roll. I’m really happy. Thanks everyone for staying so long. I really appreciate it," said Sinner after the game.
