The final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier witnessed a shocking incident as Sri Lanka's batter was saved from being dismissed in a rather embarrassing fashion when the ball touched the stumps but couldn't knock the bails off against Scotland.

Stroke Of Luck For Sri Lanka

During Sri Lanka's innings, Athapaththu had a stroke of luck when an inside edge off Abtaha Maqsood's delivery brushed the stumps but failed to dislodge the bails, allowing her to survive. Scotland's stand-in skipper and wicketkeeper Sarah Bryce expressed disappointment at the close call. Additionally, Athapaththu received another reprieve when she was dropped in the deep off the very next delivery.

In the final of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup Qualifier 2024, Sri Lanka's women's team secured a commanding 68-run victory over Scotland. Opting to bat first, Sri Lanka posted a formidable total of 169/5 in their allotted 20 overs, powered by a sensational century from skipper Chamari Athapaththu, who scored 102 runs off just 63 deliveries.

In response, Sri Lanka's bowlers put up a stellar performance, restricting Scotland to 101/7. Udeshika Prabodhani starred with the ball, claiming a three-wicket haul.

In their chase of 170 runs for victory, Scotland's opening pair of Saskia Horley and Megan McColl showed early promise with three boundaries in as many overs. However, Horley was dismissed in the third over while attempting a quick single, and McColl fell victim to Prabodhani's bowling in the following over. Scotland's woes continued as skipper Sarah Bryce was bowled shortly after.
