The cricket world is reeling from the news of former Indian fast bowler David Johnson's tragic death. Tributes have poured in from former cricketer Anil Kumble, BCCI Secretary Jay Shah, and other notable figures. Reports suggest that Johnson, aged 52, committed suicide by jumping from the fourth floor.

David Johnson Team India Career

A right-arm medium-fast bowler and right-handed batter from Karnataka, Johnson played 2 matches for India, taking 3 wickets. He made his Test debut against Australia on October 10, 1996, in Delhi, earning his spot in the playing eleven by chance.

In the 1996 Delhi Test against Australia, India's star bowler Javagal Srinath was injured, paving the way for Johnson's debut. Johnson performed impressively, partnering with his Karnataka teammate Venkatesh Prasad, and dismissed opener Michael Slater for a duck in the second innings.

Johnson was then selected for the South Africa tour, but inconsistency limited his Test career to just 2 matches, in which he took three wickets. In first-class cricket, he played 39 matches and claimed 125 wickets. In List A cricket, he took 41 wickets in 33 matches.

Johnson's domestic cricket achievements include taking 10 wickets for 152 runs against Kerala during the 1995-96 Ranji Trophy. He also scored an unbeaten century as a lower-order batsman in first-class cricket. His last match was in the Karnataka Premier League in 2015. The cricket community is deeply saddened by his passing.
