Yashasvi Jaiswal At Australia’s Radar: John Buchanan Teams Up With Hayden And Lyon To Counter India’s Top Opener
Yashasvi Jaiswal, the young India opener has gained spotlight in Australia's camp as a threat. He made a fine start to his short Test career, accumulating 1,028 runs in nine matches at an average of 68.53, including three hundreds and two double centuries.
Currently, he is the second-highest run getter in the ICC World Test Championship 2023-25 cycle behind England's Joe Root, who has garnered 1,165 runs in 15 matches with three hundreds and six fifties.
Jaiswal A Threat For Australian Team
Jaiswal will mark his maiden tour of Australia as Rohit Sharma's opening partner. The left-handed opener has been tipped by both Matthew Hayden and Nathan Lyon as one of the brightest prospects among Indian batsmen.
While Jaiswal was off to a great start in the West Indies, making 171 runs in that series, a different challenge altogether will be up against him in the form of Mitchell Starc, Pat Cummins, and Josh Hazlewood in their home conditions.
In South Africa, Jaiswal encountered challenging conditions to bat in, and his highest in two Tests where the ball swung and bounced right through. Jaiswal made a modest score of 28 there. The conditions are not quite as extreme here in Australia, but the bounce is nonetheless a stiff test for the young batsman.
John Buchanan referred Jaiswal as an "exciting player" but he also warned him about extra bounce at Perth.
"There is a lot of talk about that, is not there? He is an exciting young player, and certainly one to watch, but he would be to me one of those examples. He (Jaiswal) has not played in Australia, or at least he has not played in Perth in a Test match on a wicket that bounces."
"So, his ability to adjust his game to those conditions in some sense might be a barometer as to how India will go through the series," he added.
Yashasvi Jaiswal, The Fastest Indian To Score 1000 Runs In Test Cricket
Yashasvi Jaiswal, managed to find a place in the record books as he became the fastest Indian to score 1,000 runs in Test cricket. Hitherto, the record jointly belonged to Sunil Gavaskar and Cheteshwar Pujara, who achieved this feat in just 11 Tests. Jaiswal achieved this milestone of reaching 1,000 runs in his ninth Test match to be the joint second fastest in this aspect.

The record for the fastest 1,000 runs in Test cricket stands in the name of Don Bradman, who did it in seven matches. Jaiswal now shares the tag with Herbert Sutcliffe, Everton Weekes, and George Headley as the second fastest to reach this milestone.
Australia Vs India- 5 Match Test Series
Test series between Australia and India will start on November 22 in Perth.
The second Test, which is a day-night, will be staged at the Adelaide Oval from December 6 to 10, the Test will be full of action. The series heads to The Gabba in Brisbane for the third Test, starting on December 14 to 18.
The Boxing Day Test will be held in Melbourne Cricket Ground starting from December 26 to 30.
The Test series will reach its exciting end with the fifth and last Test at Sydney Cricket Ground from January 3 to 7.
