Gmail has over 1.8 billion users worldwide, but it's unclear how many are affected by the issue today. Users complained about the email service problems on X, posting screenshots of an error message that says: 'Oops, something went wrong.'

Gmail Outage Disrupts Email Services With Major Afternoon Impact

DownDetector, a site that tracks online problems, showed users reported Gmail issues all day, with a major outage occurring in the afternoon. The outage hit when most Americans were working. About 82% of the problems reported to DownDetector were related to sending emails, 15% were about server connections, and 3% involved the website itself.

Gmail is the world's most popular email provider, used in over 170 countries and territories. Google's Workspace dashboard shows problems with ChromeOS, Gmail, and Google Drive. The company says on its site, "Our engineering team is still looking into the issue."

The alert says, "Users trying to send emails or save drafts with attachments will have problems." It also mentions that there is no workaround available right now.
