The Indian government issued a warning about a fake email pretending to be a court order from the Indian Intelligence Bureau (IIB). The email falsely claims that the recipient's internet usage is linked to viewing pornography and threatens legal action if the recipient does not reply within 24 hours.

The scam email falsely claims to be from Prashant Gautam, a prosecutor at the IIB. It says that the IIB has issued a court order because of the recipient's alleged misuse of their internet. The email also makes exaggerated claims about the IIB’s ability to track and analyze digital data, creating fear to pressure recipients into responding quickly.

Government Alerts Public About Fake Email

The Press Information Bureau (PIB) Fact Check quickly addressed the scam. On their official X (formerly Twitter) account, they warned, 'Received a similar email related to a court order against your internet IP traffic ⁉️ Be cautious #PIBFactCheck This email is #Fake.' This alert aims to let people know that the email is not real and to prevent them from being tricked.
