Annual installations of robots in factories around the world were more than half a million for the third year running, taking the total stock of robots in use to 4.3 million by the end of 2023, as the International Federation of Robotics, through its latest 'World Robotics Report', found. The report further shows that these newly deployed robots are found in more than 70% of them in Asia, while Europe accounts for 17%, and the Americas, mainly the United States, contribute 10%.

Asia Leads Global Robot Deployment

The majority of newly installed robots were in Asia, and though China decreased 5% from its annual installations in 2022, it remained the largest in terms of newly installed industrial robots in the world. The nation accounted for the largest proportion of new worldwide installations. The United States, where efforts to restore manufacturing have been deployed, had a slight decline in installations in 2023 over the previous year, as did Japan and Korea.

Automation Trends In Europe

On the other hand, in 2023 over 2022, robot installations in Germany only among top automation countries increased. The two largest European markets, namely Italy and France, declined. Some of the reasons that led to the decrease in investment in automation across Europe included the war in Ukraine, tight monetary policies, and a European automotive industry weaker than its Chinese counterpart, according to the report.

Automation Boom In India

Even the largest labor forces in the world have not escaped automation. India reported a phenomenal 59% increase in robot installations in 2023 to an all-time high of 8,510 units. It was led by the automotive industry. According to the IFR, India has nearly doubled its stock of robots since 2018, and according to Marina Bill, President of the IFR: "India is experiencing rapid growth in the Asian emerging markets.".
