Chillikomban, Kerala's Beloved Wild Elephant, Goes Viral For His Mango Obsession

In the expansive realm of social media, where captivating content is in endless supply, few things capture our interest like the endearing and humorous behaviors of animals. One of the latest sensations is a video featuring an unexpected star—a wild elephant displaying an insatiable fondness for mangoes.

Living in the forests of Nelliyampathy in Palakkad, Kerala, Chillikomban, the elephant, chooses to stay along the forest borders without causing any harm or trouble to neighboring communities. Instead, he delights in eating juicy mangoes and delicious jackfruits.

Chillikomban's actions have garnered significant attention online, accumulating over 50,000 views.

According to a report from Asianet, elephants that venture into rural areas often receive double names, typically based on their favorite foods. For instance, there's a wild tusker named Arikomban, known to roam around the Chinnakanal and Periya Canal region. Another elephant, Chakkakompan, earned his name due to his affection for jackfruit. However, the origin of the name Chillikomban remains unclear, as reported.

The report also mentioned that no obstacle, not even the height of mango or jackfruit trees, can deter Chillikomban from satisfying its cravings. Local villagers have recounted tales of the elephant's skillful maneuvers, including his tendency to shake mango trees to drop the fruit and even climb jackfruit trees to access the ripest fruit.

According to the report, locals expressed that the sight of elephants like Chillikomban wandering through tea plantations after enjoying their meals brings them joy. Despite their presence near orange or plantation worker fields, elephants such as Chillikomban do not pose a threat to humans. Surprisingly, Chillikomban does not seem bothered if it cannot find its preferred jackfruits and mangoes. Villagers mentioned that Chillikomban typically retreats into the forest just as calmly as it appeared.
