Indian Father Kills Sick Son, US Mom Dies While Saving Child: Contrast Tales Of Sorrow

In a deeply saddening incident in India, a father in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh, killed his 8-year-old son, who had a mental disability. The tragedy unfolded at Radha Krishna Complex in Chuna Bhatti. The father, overwhelmed by the costs of his son's Down Syndrome treatment, began to see him as a burden. While the child's mother was on the roof, the father strangled his sleeping son. Afterward, he confessed to the police. The father, Anitabh Firvarkar, an employee at a security agency, has been charged with murder, and an investigation is underway.

In a contrasting yet equally sorrowful event in America, a mother sacrificed her life to save her son. Alexa Steakley, a 29-year-old teacher from Ohio, died while protecting her 6-year-old son from car thieves. According to a Daily Mail report, Columbus Division Police found Steakley's body near White Oak Park Condominium in Canal Winchester, southeast Columbus. Steakley had placed her sleeping child in her Honda CR-V and went to retrieve some items from her apartment. Upon returning, she confronted a thief attempting to steal her car. The thief fled, and in her pursuit to stop him, he pushed her onto the car bonnet, leading to fatal head injuries. Steakley was taken to Mount Carmel East Hospital, where doctors pronounced her dead.
