investor claims rs 25 lakh salary is really nothing sparks intense debate

Investor and trader Sourav Dutta recently stirred up a debate on social media with his opinions on tech salaries. Dutta stated in a post that a salary of Rs 25 lakh per annum is "nothing" in the current market, suggesting that even software engineers earn more. He also questioned whether such salaries are distorting the market. His remarks have sparked a variety of reactions online, with many users sharing their thoughts on the issue.

Dutta wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "A 25 LPA salary is insignificant nowadays. Even software engineers earn more. Are tech salaries skewing the market?"

The post, shared two days ago, has gathered over 650,000 views. Some people agreed with Dutta, while others shared different opinions in the comments section.

Netizens shared their point of view on the matter

One user commented, "Twenty years ago, a fresher could buy 30 grams of gold with one month's salary, but now they can't even afford 10 grams. The currency is depreciating, so look at your income or net worth in terms of assets, not currency.”

Another user shared, “I have placed over ten matrimonial ads for my son in the local newspaper, but no one has responded. The reason is that most girls are earning ten to twenty lakh and even fifty to sixty lakh in tech companies. A six lakh salary seems like an insult for a boy these days.”

Meanwhile, someone questioned, “Who are these techies with 3-5 years of experience? I know many IT professionals who earn 20-25 LPA after 10 years of experience. Maybe a few startups offer such high packages to new employees, but not the big tech companies.”

Dutta replied, “You might be surprised at how much IT professionals are earning now. It's quite common for someone with 5 years of experience to earn 30 lakhs.”

Other comments included, “Get real... only 2% of people file income tax returns, and 25 LPA is probably earned by just 0.4% of the population,” while another joked, “He must be living in an alternate universe.”

This isn't the first time Dutta's opinions have sparked controversy online. In June, he caused a stir by posting a table that classified wealth based on net worth. According to his classification, people with a net worth of Rs 10 lakh are considered "poor," while those with Rs 50 lakh are labeled as "middle class."
