Not everyone finds reading books enjoyable, but for those who do, it's a personal milestone. Local News recently featured a man who has completed thousands of books in just the past few decades. He is Amal Kumar Jha, a resident of Madhubani in Bihar. According to the report, he visits the library daily to check out a book. For the past four years, he has been recognized for his extensive reading habits, consistently securing first place each time. He has read numerous literature books in Maithili, Hindi, and other languages.

Amal, a resident of Sarisab Pahi village in Pandaul Block, has a deep love for reading books, earning him great respect among the locals. The village hosts a unique competition: anyone who reads a book from the library must take a test at the end of the year.

According to Amal Jha, reading has been his favorite habit since childhood. For the past 35 years, he has maintained this passion, reading continuously. He has read 105 books published by the Maharajadhiraja Kameshwar Singh Kalyani Foundation and has completed around 35,000 books in total. He also mentioned that many people in Madhubani frequent the library and enjoy reading.

Amal has explored literature in Maithili, Hindi, Bengali, and English, as well as history and law books. As an avid reader, he has established a personal library at home. He shared with Local18 that in addition to Kalyani Foundation’s books, he has read works from Shekhar, Anupras, and Navarambha publications. Preferring libraries over purchasing books, some of his favorite titles are Mirror Tirhut, Mithila Darpan, Bihar Darpan, and Bhagalpur Darpan.
