Bangladesh: The interim government of Bangladesh, headed by Nobel laureate Prof Muhammad Yunus, is set to take the oath on Thursday, announced Army Chief General Waker-Uz-Zaman.

Swearing-In Details

At a press conference on Wednesday, General Waker confirmed that the swearing-in ceremony is scheduled for 8:00 PM on Thursday. He also mentioned that the advisory council would likely consist of 15 members.

Leadership And Appointment

The 84-year-old economist, Yunus, was appointed as the head of the interim government by President Mohammed Shahabuddin on Tuesday. This appointment follows the resignation and subsequent fleeing of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina amid violent protests against a controversial job quota system.

The Nobel Prize winner is currently in Paris. In a media interview from Paris, the PM-designate expressed eagerness to return home and observe the situation there. He also urged the nation's youth to "organize" themselves to navigate through the current turmoil.

An economist and banker, Yunus received the 2006 Nobel Peace Prize for his pioneering work in microcredit markets. He has been recognized for lifting thousands out of poverty through Grameen Bank, which he established in 1983. The bank provides small loans to entrepreneurs who do not qualify for conventional bank loans.
