An interchange near Jaganpur-Afzalpur will be built which will be about 10 km from the zero point of the Yamuna Expressway.

Its tender was already issued and Chief Secretary Durga Shankar Mishra had laid the foundation stone of the interchange. But the construction work got halted due to budget escalation.

Now as per the reports, the financial issue has been resolved and the work is expected to resume soon.

How Will It Benefit The Commuters?

This interchange will connect Yamuna Expressway with the EPE which wasn’t connected earlier. As a result of which people traveling to Agra had to cover extra distance of 15 to 20 km.

In such situation, the connection of the two expressways will provide relief and convenience to the people and distance between Delhi and Agra will be shortened.

It will also reduce the traffic congestion on the expressway.

This interchange will benefit travelers from Ghaziabad, Meerut, Saharanpur, and other regions to reach Jewar Airport easily.

Residents of Agra, Mathura, Hathras, Firozabad, and neighbouring districts can directly travel to Ghaziabad and Meerut via the Interchange without detouring through Greater Noida.

According to the information, the interchange will have 8 loops spanning over area of 6.6 km. Four loops will be made for climbing and four for descending.

This interchange will provide direct connectivity to Noida International Airport and Delhi-NCR.

Currently the commuters, especially motorists face a lot of problem in reaching EPE from Greater Noida, Noida and Delhi.

It will also make travel between Haryana and Uttar Pradesh easier.

Why Was It Halted?

The National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) is funding the project and Yamuna Expressway Industrial Development Authority (YEIDA) will look after the construction to connect the two expressways.

The EPE passes above the 165km Yamuna Expressway, near the Noida International University and Galgotias University campuses.

An official of Yamuna Authority told that the work of building the interchange had started in the year 2023 itself and a private contractor was given the responsibility of it. The project was to cost Rs 122 crore, but the issue of spending Rs 22 crore only on soil stopped the work. After getting the government’s approval, CEO of Yamuna Expressway Authority, Arunvir Singh hopes that its construction will be completed by next year.
