The Karnataka government has banned the release and broadcast of the Bollywood film 'Hamare Baarah; for at least two weeks or until further notice, citing concerns that the film could spark communal tensions if allowed to be shown in the state, as reported by news agency ANI.

The Congress-led government in the state has made this decision under provisions of the Karnataka Cinemas (Regulation) Act, 1964, following requests from various minority organizations and delegations. This action came after these groups viewed the trailer of the film, which features Annu Kapoor, Manoj Joshi, Paritosh Tripathi, and Parth Samthaan.

Previously, the Bombay High Court lifted the injunction on the release of the highly anticipated film, which it had imposed just two days earlier. The court has directed the respondents to constitute a committee consisting of three members, with at least one member being Muslim, to view the movie and submit a report. The court stressed that the committee should concentrate specifically on the movie's theme and the allegations raised in the petition.

'Hamare Baarah' has sparked widespread discussion due to its bold exploration of the theme of overpopulation, which is rarely addressed in Indian cinema. The film's provocative narrative and thought-provoking themes have captured the public's imagination.

The film, originally titled 'Hum Do Humare Baraah', was renamed to 'Humare Baarah' in accordance with a directive from the Central Board of Film Certification (CBFC). The makers announced in a statement that the movie, now titled 'Humare Baarah', is scheduled for a big-screen release on June 7th.
