Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal had one-on-one meetings with leaders of the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today to get their opinions on who should be the next Chief Minister. This comes after he announced his plan to resign.

AAP leader Saurabh Bharadwaj shared that Kejriwal met with members of the Political Affairs Committee (PAC) to discuss the issue. "Kejriwal ji said yesterday that he would resign tomorrow. In preparation for that, he called a meeting with senior leaders and ministers," Bharadwaj said.

More Talks to Follow

Kejriwal also spoke directly with leaders and ministers about who could be the new Chief Minister. Tomorrow, he will have another meeting with AAP’s MLAs at 11:30 am.

Why Kejriwal Decided to Step Down

After being granted bail in the Delhi liquor policy case, Kejriwal said he would let the people of Delhi decide his fate by stepping down as Chief Minister. He seems confident in his decision, just as he was when he resigned in the past and returned to power with a large win. Kejriwal also mentioned that AAP is ready for early elections if needed.

Upcoming Delhi Elections

Delhi's Assembly elections are scheduled for February next year, but Kejriwal has asked for the elections to be held in November, along with Maharashtra’s. He is looking for a strong leader who can represent the party’s key positions and is popular within AAP.

Possible Candidates for Delhi's Next CM

  1. Atishi
    A minister in Delhi, Atishi manages education and public works. She studied at Oxford and has been key in AAP’s school education reforms.
  2. Saurabh Bharadwaj
    A three-time MLA from Greater Kailash, Bharadwaj oversees vigilance and health. He took over important roles after Manish Sisodia’s arrest.
  3. Raghav Chadha
    AAP MP Raghav Chadha, a chartered accountant, has been with the party since the beginning. He played an important role in AAP’s victory in Punjab.
  4. Kailash Gahlot
    Gahlot is a senior member of the Delhi government and handles major departments like transport, finance, and home affairs.
  5. Sanjay Singh
    Sanjay Singh, an AAP MP known for his speeches in parliament, is also considered. He is a founding member of AAP and part of the party's national executive.
