Bhubaneswar Man Arrested For Posing As Police Inspector And Deceiving Woman In Fake Marriage Scam

Online phishing, where individuals are lured into fraudulent schemes through deceptive tactics, has taken a disturbing turn with the rise of cases involving women being trapped in love and marriage scams. The same incident occurred in Bhubaneswar where a man has been arrested for deceiving a woman by posing as a police inspector and marrying her under pretenses, according to police reports. The accused, Subash Chandra Kanhar, had initially sent a friend request to the woman on Facebook, which she accepted. Introducing himself as Manoj Kumar Mishra, a police inspector, he befriended the woman and eventually married her. The marriage took place after Kanhar rented a house, leading the woman to believe in the legitimacy of their union.

Suspicion Leads To Arrest Of Fake Police

The situation took a turn when the woman became suspicious after Kanhar repeatedly avoided taking her to his actual home, despite her numerous requests. Growing increasingly doubtful, the victim decided to investigate on her own. She traced the vehicle number that Kanhar had been using, which led her to his real address in Bhadrak, Odisha. This discovery revealed Kanhar's true identity, shocking the woman, who realized she had been deceived.

Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) Tapas Pradhan provided further details, stating that upon learning the truth, the victim promptly approached the police and filed a complaint against Kanhar. The authorities swiftly acted on the complaint, leading to Kanhar's arrest.

Bhubaneswar Man Marital Scams Uncovered

The investigation uncovered more troubling facts about Kanhar's past. According to the ACP, Kanhar, who is 55 years old and has a 25-year-old son, had previously married two other women before targeting the current victim. He used his false identity to exploit these women, both financially and for personal gratification. Kanhar's real profession is that of a worker at a fabrication unit, far from the police inspector persona he had assumed to deceive his victims.

ACP Pradhan emphasized that Kanhar's actions were premeditated, with the intent to deceive and exploit vulnerable women. The accused had presented himself as a police inspector posted in Rourkela, gaining the victim's trust before ultimately betraying her.

Legal Action And Online Fraud Warning

The police are now preparing to present Kanhar before the court, where he will face charges for his fraudulent activities. This case serves as a stark reminder of the dangers of online interactions and the importance of verifying the identities of individuals met through social media platforms.

The victim, who had been lured into a false marriage, is now seeking justice through the legal system. The authorities are urging others to be cautious and to report any suspicious activities to the police to prevent similar incidents from occurring in the future.
