Big News! Bengaluru Gets New Cab Fares, Including Ola And Uber
The Karnataka transport department has recently updated the standardized taxi fares for both cab aggregators and other private services in the state, marking the first revision in over two years. As a result, passengers can expect an increase in the cost of their cab rides.
As per the latest regulations from the transport department, the initial cab fare for the first four kilometers has been raised to ₹100, up from the previous ₹75. Beyond this distance, passengers will be charged ₹28 per kilometer. This fare structure applies to basic vehicles valued at less than ₹10 lakh.

For cabs in the price range of ₹10 to ₹15 lakh, the minimum fare for the initial four kilometers is now ₹115, with an additional ₹28 per kilometer. Cabs exceeding ₹15 lakh in value will have a minimum fare of ₹130 for the first four kilometers, and an extra ₹32 per kilometer thereafter. It's important to note that the new cab fare structure does not include GST and toll charges.
The revised fares will experience a 10% increase during nighttime, as specified in the recent order. Notably, service providers are prohibited from imposing additional charges under labels such as 'peak hours.' The last revision of cab fares occurred in 2021, with a distinct structure for app-based aggregators like Ola, Uber, and other private entities. However, the latest revision from the transport department has standardized the fares for all service providers.
In a separate development, the Karnataka government is gearing up to introduce its own cab service, resembling Ola and Uber. The government's initiative is set to kick off this month, initially focusing on operations in Bengaluru.
