NEW DELHI: Commercial flight operations from the Noida International Airport, which is being built in Jewar, are expected to begin in April 2025 as the ongoing construction work has reportedly hit a roadblock.

According to media reports, the Noida International Airport was originally scheduled to open by December-end, however, the delay in the delivery of construction equipment and materials has pushed back its scheduled opening to next year.

Sharing more details, the Chief Executive Officer of Yamuna International Airport Private Limited - a subsidiary of Zurich Airport International, established to design, build, and operate the airport – is still hopeful that test flights will begin soon.

Five-Phase Construction; Capacity To Handle 20,000 Tonnes Of Cargo

For the unversed, the international airport in Jewar is designed to serve as the second international air terminal for Delhi-NCR. The development of the Noida International Airport will occur in five phases out of which the first phase will be designed to handle 12 million passengers annually with a single 3900-metre runway.

Noida Airport Operator To Seek DGCA License

While the airport’s operator is expected to apply for the aerodrome licence from the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) by the end of this year, test and validation flights are scheduled for December 2024.

Among other notable features, the soon-to-be-built terminal’s architecture draws inspiration from the ghats of Varanasi.

The airport operator has, meanwhile, signed a deal with IndiGo and Akasa Air to commence flight operations. Additionally, NIA is also working on developing a cargo terminal, aiming to handle 250,000 tonnes of cargo in the first phase by 2025.
