Bihar: 9 Kanwariyas Electrocuted To Death As DJ Hits High-Tension Wire In Vaishali | VIDEO

Vaishali: Nine kanwariyas died due to electrocution when the DJ trolley they were traveling by came into contact with an 11,000-volt wire. The incident happened in the Vaishali district of Bihar when the devotees of Lord Shiva were on the way to offer water (jal) to their deity on Monday.

Mondays are considered very auspicious for Hindus during the holy month of Shrawan (Sawan). The group of kanwariyas was en route to Pahelaja ghat in Saran carrying the holy water (gangajal), they were to perform 'jalabhishek' (offering of holy water) to their deity Baba Hariharnath in the Sonpur of Saran district in Bihar.


Of the dozens of pilgrims, eight died instantly while the ninth devotee succumbed to death after a few minutes. The death toll is expected to rise as the DJ trolley had many more on board affected by the electrocution. Other kanwariyas of the tribe have been rushed to the hospital for treatment.

The regional police and the DM of the Vaishali district reached the incident spot after the intimation. The identification of the dead bodies is under process. The height of the DJ and the trolley was relatively more than that of normal trollies which led to its contact with the high-tension wire, it has been cited as the reason behind this tragic incident that has brought sorrow to families of Bihar.

A week ago, another 55-year-old from Jamshedpur was electrocuted to death on the Katoria-Deoghar kanwariya path in Bihar. The devotee Ramesh Kumar Ajiwal came into contact with an exposed wire while stopping for a refreshment.
