When BJP Leader Prabhat Jha Returned Liquor To Mallya And Wrote a Letter

BJP senior leader Prabhat Jha passed away on Friday in Delhi. He was suffering from chronic illness and was hospitalized in the Medanta Hospital, Gurgaon since June where he breathed his last. Jha was a native of Sitamarhi, Bihar and is survived by his two sons. He was considered one of the bright minds in the BJP.

Early life

Born on June 4, 1957, in the Sitamarhi district of Bihar, he moved to Madhya Pradesh during his initial days where he completed his education and led his political life. A two-time Rajya Sabha MP, Jha was considered one of the leaders with grit and was known in the Gwalior-Chambal belt.

He pursued his BSc. from the PG College and MA in political science from Madhav College in Gwalior. He also pursued an LLB from the LLB College in the same town.

A letter to Mallya

In October 2009, when liquor king and owner of the Kingfisher brand, Vijay Mallya sent him a bottle of liquor as a gift, he politely returned it with a letter in which he wrote - I neither know you nor do I have an interest in these drinks. I would have appreciated had you sent a book instead of the bottle.

Considered very grounded and of strong character, he started his career as a journalist before his stint in politics. He proclaimed his wish to retire by the age of 62 and open a primary school for children. He also longed to have cattle, particularly cows and buffaloes.
