Delhi Airport Terminal-1 Shutdown For 2 Months: New Departure Points For Domestic Flights

Delhi Airport: After the roof collapsed at Delhi's Indira Gandhi International Airport, flight operations at Terminal-1 remained halted on Saturday. The Airport Authority has now moved Terminal-1 flights to Terminal-2 and Terminal-3. It is uncertain when Terminal-1 will resume operations, and it may take more than two months. Consequently, there was very little activity at Terminal-1 on Saturday.

CISF personnel at Delhi Airport Terminal-1 were seen relaxing. Sources suggest it may take two months to repair Terminal-1. The Airport Authority reported on Saturday that flight operations at Delhi Airport are normal, with all flights being operated from Terminal-2 and Terminal-3.

About 1,400 flights operate daily from the three terminals of IGI Airport, with most flights operating from Terminals 2 and 3. Terminal-1 handles only domestic flights. Since the roof collapse incident on Friday night, 70 percent of passengers have rescheduled their journeys for the next day, while 30 percent have taken refunds. Indigo and SpiceJet have issued helpline numbers and are providing continuous updates on their websites.

On Friday, heavy rain hit Delhi, causing the canopy of Terminal-1 at the airport to collapse. Several cars were damaged, one person died, and three people were injured. Following the accident, the opposition criticized the Modi government, claiming it exposed flaws in its development.
