Former External Affairs Minister K. Natwar Singh passed away on the night of August 10 at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he had been receiving treatment for a prolonged illness.

Before entering politics, Singh had a distinguished career as a diplomat. He served as the External Affairs Minister from 2004 to 2005 in Prime Minister Manmohan Singh's Cabinet. Additionally, he held the positions of Union Minister of State for Steel, Mines, and Coal, as well as Agriculture, from 1985 to 1986 in the Rajiv Gandhi government, and was the Minister of State in the Ministry of External Affairs from 1986 to 1989.

Dr. Karan Singh expressed his condolences on the passing of K. Natwar Singh, acknowledging his contributions and mourning the loss of a respected statesman. He said "I am deeply sad to learn that my good friend and colleague Shri K. Natwar Singh has passed away. He was exactly my age, and I knew him for at least six decades. He made his mark as a foreign service officer for many years in many countries, and also when he joined politics his contribution was significant I pay my homage to his memory and convey my deep sympathy to his wife Rajkumari Hem Kaur and other members of the family."
