The majority mark in the 81-member Jharkhand Legislative Assembly is 41. Ahead of the crucial trust vote, Champai Soren had stated that the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha (JMM) had the support of 47 MLAs. Additionally, he expressed optimism that the support might increase to 50. The successful outcome of the trust vote, with Champai Soren receiving 47 votes, aligns with his earlier assertion regarding the support for his leadership in the assembly.
Champai Soren, aged 67, assumed office succeeding Hemant Soren, who had to resign due to his arrest by the Enforcement Directorate in connection to a money laundering and land scam case. Hemant Soren, the JMM executive president, was present in the House during the floor test proceedings. He had obtained permission to attend the session despite the ongoing legal issues.
