New Delhi: K Natwar Singh, the former external affairs minister, passed away at the age of 93 due to a long illness, according to his family. He died on Sunday at Medanta Hospital in Gurugram, where he had been receiving treatment for the past few weeks.

A family source stated that his son is at the hospital, and many other family members are traveling to Delhi from his native state for the last rites planned there. He had been unwell for a while and passed away late Saturday night.

K Natwar Singh Leaves A Lasting Legacy 

Singh, a former Congress Member of Parliament, served as India's External Affairs Minister from 2004 to 2005 during the UPA-I government led by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.

Born in 1931 in Bharatpur district, Rajasthan, Singh was a seasoned diplomat who brought extensive diplomatic experience to his political career. As a Congress leader, he also wrote many books on topics ranging from the life of a maharaja to the intricacies of foreign affairs.

He wrote several books, including The Legacy of Nehru: A Memorial Tribute and My China Diary 1956-88. In 1984, he received the Padma Bhushan for his service to the nation.
