Cochin: A 42-year-old Air India passenger named Manoj Kumar was arrested on Sunday morning at Cochin International Airport after making an alarming comment to a Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) officer. The incident occurred at the X-ray Baggage Inspection System (XBIS) checkpoint during the pre-embarkation security check.

Suspicious Comment Causes Panic

Kumar reportedly asked the CISF officer, "Is there any bomb in my bag?" This statement immediately raised concerns, prompting the airport security team to take swift action. The airport authorities promptly called the Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) to inspect Kumar's cabin and checked baggage. Following a detailed examination and confirmation of safety, Kumar was handed over to the local police for further investigation.

Flight Departs on Time

Despite the incident, the Air India flight from Kochi to Mumbai departed as scheduled, with no further disruptions reported.

Similar Incident Reported Earlier

The incident at Cochin Airport is not an isolated case. In May 2024, a similar situation unfolded at Delhi Airport when a tissue paper with the word "bomb" written on it was found in the lavatory of an Air India flight. The flight, which was scheduled to depart for Vadodara, prompted immediate action from security agencies following the discovery. Deputy Commissioner of Police (IGI Airport), Usha Rangnani, confirmed that standard security protocols were followed, leading to a comprehensive inspection of Manoj Kumar's belongings. The inspection revealed no suspicious items, and the incident was ultimately deemed a hoax.
