Kolkata Rape-Murder: CBI Orders Polygraph Test For Suspect, Psychological Autopsy Of Victim’s Final Days
With a detailed interrogation of the victim's family and further examination of the crime scene on Monday (19 August), the ongoing investigation in the Kolkata rape-murder case has taken the Central Bureau of Investigation one step closer towards the arrested suspect, with the CBI now opting for a polygraph test for Sanjay Roy.
Forensic evidence and polygraph exam
The probing CBI team took a series of statements from the victim's parents at their Sodepur home, where some of the most crucial leads in the investigation were provided. Later in the evening, a forensic team, equipped with high-tech equipment, visited the house and took fresh samples of evidence. After this, the CBI sought permission from the additional chief judicial magistrate at the Sealdah court to conduct a polygraph test on Roy, citing inconsistencies in his statements and suspicion of deceit. This test is being conducted along with layered voice analysis to evaluate Roy's emotional state and credibility.
The victim's family, though have serious doubts about Roy being the only accused. They have filed a petition in the Calcutta High Court where they claimed: 'Our daughter was gang-raped. Multiple persons were involved,' blaming the local police, they allege that it not doing enough in its probe. Demanding that a proper CBI probe be ordered into the activities of the Kolkata Police Commissioner, they stated.
CCTV shadows and diary secrets of Kolkata incident
A meticulous probe into the whereabouts of Roy on the day the murder occurred has brought to light inconsistencies in his statement to the CBI. Though CCTV camera footage showed his entry into the hospital at several spots, he did not make statements about the guards who were on duty. The investigators have also nailed a route to the crime scene with minimal CCTV coverage, which Roy may have taken.
During the development, the CBI will aim at a psychological autopsy of the victim. Such an inquiry could be conducted through her diary, the calls made, and the messages that were written to understand the state of mind of the 19-year-old girl before she was rushed from her house and gang-raped mercilessly. The documents showed that the diary pages, provided by the girl's father, indicated that the victim was upset before her death. These revelations might be crucial in the course of piecing together the crime puzzle and the victim's state of mind.
