Mumbai: Major Fire Breaks Out At Times Tower In Kamala Mills Compound, No Casualties Reported

A significant fire broke out early Friday morning at the 7-storey Times Tower building located in Kamala Mills compound, Lower Parel, Mumbai. The fire, which started around 6:30 am, has been classified as a level 2 fire by the fire brigade. Fire brigade has dispatched multiple fire engines and tankers to control the blaze. The fire reportedly began in the electrical duct between the third and seventh floors. No casualties have been reported so far.

Firefighting Efforts Underway

After detecting the fire, the Mumbai Fire Brigade (MFB) dispatched eight fire engines, five jumbo tankers, and additional vehicles to the scene. Civic officials reported that the fire is under control and focused on the electrical duct. The police, ambulance services, and ward staff are actively managing the situation.

Concerns Raised About Safety

MNS leader Sandeep Deshpande raised concerns over safety in the Kamala Mills compound, noting that this is the third fire in the area in five years. He criticized the lack of fire audits and alleged illegal construction supported by local MLAs, which could be contributing to safety issues.

This fire incident is not the first in Kamala Mills. In December 2017, a massive blaze at a restaurant in the same compound led to the tragic deaths of 14 people, injuring several others. The 2017 fire also impacted three national news channels, including Times Now and ET Now, which had their offices in the area.

Authorities continue to conduct firefighting operations and will soon begin investigating the cause of the fire.
