'No Mercy For Culprits': PM Modi Promises Strict Action For Crimes Against Women Amid Kolkata Horror

Amid rising crime incidents against women, PM Modi has given a stern warning to the offenders on Sunday.

Kolkata: In the Lakhpati Didi event in Maharashtra's Jalgaon today, PM Modi assured that no mercy will be shown to the criminal who commits sins against women. While speaking at the event, he addressed recent incidents of crime against women like the Kolkata rape-murder, Badlapur sexual assault of two minor girls, and the Assam gangrape which drew nationwide outrage.

PM Modi said that it is the government and society's responsibility to maintain women's dignity and safety. PM adds that stronger and stricter laws against the offenders are being made. Meanwhile, he termed crimes against women as 'unforgivable'. He highlighted that the government has made a lot of amendments to make justice more accessible to the victims. He said that previously, people complained about delays in filing FIRs. The government brought Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) and made many amendments and removed such obstacles. The PM said, "Women can file an e-FIR if she doesn't want to go to the police station. Nobody can change or interfere with an e-FIR, he adds.

The PM also assured that the central government remains firm in its stance to tackle crimes against women and is ready to extend support to the state governments. Prime Minister Narendra Modi said that against sexual crimes against minors, new laws have provisions like the death penalty and life imprisonment. Laws against fake marriage promises and deception have also been clearly defined in the BNS.
