Noida: Men Create Fake Accounts On Dating App, Extort Gays On Pretext Of Family

Two men have been held by Noida police for extorting money from gays on the pretext of informing their families about their inclination.

Three men in Noida have been found to have had fake accounts on a dating app particularly created for the LGBTQ community. They used to talk to other prospects (gays) on the app, invite them, and then loot them. Noida police held two of them on September 22 whereas the third remains absconded.

As per the police reports, a complaint regarding theft of cash of Rs. 7,000 was filed on September 21 in a Noida police station. The complaint also stated that a ransom of one lakh rupees was taken via Google Pay account. Taking cognisance of the same, police nabbed two of the accused on September 22 from Dadri-Sikandarabad road whereas the third managed to remain absconded.

Fake profiles for extortion

On further investigation and interrogation, the accused stated that they used to create different fake accounts on the dating app created only for the LGBTQ community. This case wasn't the first attempt but they have been habitual offenders caught for the first time.

Contact, invite, extort

The accused further told the police officials that after creating fake accounts on the dating app, they used to interact with gays and invite them to certain places for meetings. Upon meeting the three men somehow managed to gang up and loot the person. They used the inclination of the gay person against them and threatened them to disclose it.

In the recent case, they asked the complainant to transfer all the money he had in his bank account else his (complainant's) parents would be informed about his inclination as a gay. The accused used to intimidate all the app users they could trap, on the pretext of informing their family about their inclination.
