In an exclusive interview with News24, Omar Abdullah, Vice President of the National Conference (NC), expressed relief over the resolution of seat-sharing negotiations with the Congress party for the upcoming Jammu and Kashmir assembly elections. Abdullah noted that there had been concerns until this morning regarding the ongoing tussle, but thanks to the collaborative efforts of senior leadership from both parties, a solution was finally reached.

"Some seats were particularly prestigious for both of us and couldn't have been compromised," Omar explained. "Thus, we agreed to leave five seats for a friendly contest, while finalizing the distribution for the remaining seats."

The NC leader emphasized the significance of this alliance, especially amidst speculation from opponents suggesting that the National Conference might distance itself from Congress following recent developments involving Dr. Farooq Abdullah and the Enforcement Directorate. "Our rivals were quick to claim that we would keep our doors open for the BJP. However, the proactive engagement from Congress representatives sent from Delhi led to this collaborative solution," he stated.

Omar Abdullah also took a moment to criticize the BJP, revealing that there was considerable turmoil within the party's office after they abruptly withdrew their candidate list shortly after its release.

Hinting at his party's participation in the upcoming elections, Omar mentioned ongoing discussions with party leaders about candidate selection. "The people will be informed once our list of candidates is made public," he concluded.
