Badlapur Rape Case: Akshay Shinde’s Mother Alleges 'Conspiracy', Demands Probe Into Son’s Death

The mother of Akshay Shinde, the accused in the Badlapur sexual assault case who was killed by police on Monday, dismissed the official version of the incident report by the police. She contends that her son was actually murdered as part of a larger conspiracy between the police and the school management.

Alka Shinde Disputes Police Claims

Alka Shinde was quoted in India Today where she said that her son had told her when they met that he was battered while under police custody. She further disputed the police claim by saying that it was impossible for her son to have snatched the weapon from an experienced officer of the police.

The police had claimed that Shinde was killed while trying to escape when he supposedly grabbed a policeman's gun and shot at him. His mother and uncle, however, claim that Shinde was not depressed or violent and that it was an incident of conscious homicide by the police.

Mother Demands Justice For Akshay Shinde

Akshay Shinde was arrested on August 17 for indecently assaulting two four- and five-year-old girls in the toilet of a school. The case was met with extreme protests and outrage in the locality. Appeased by public criticism over the shoddy police investigation, the Maharashtra government formed a Special Investigation Team to take over the case. The SIT filed the chargesheet against Shinde and members of the school management on September 16.

Shinde's mother has demanded that all circumstances regarding her son's death be investigated thoroughly. She said she would fight for justice until the culprits were punished. She gave a call to probe school management for involvement in the conspiracy.

Badlapur Rape Case Detail

A man who raped two schoolgirls in Badlapur, Maharashtra, was shot dead by police on Monday after he began firing at them when they were taking him out of jail. The man grabbed a weapon and started firing at the policemen when two of the latter were injured before he was shot dead.

Action Taken Against Badlapur Police Officials

Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis has ordered the Commissioner of Police, Thane, to suspend the senior police inspector, assistant sub-inspector, and head constable of Badlapur police station. This is after it was found that they delayed taking action in the initial stages of the Badlapur incident.
In response to the situation, the school management has also made actions of suspending the principal, a class teacher, and a female attendant of the school involved in the case.
The Bombay High Court on September 3 warned the police to prepare a strong and reliable case, and not to rush with the filling of the charge sheet due to public pressure.

A division bench comprising Justices Revati Mohite Dere and Prithviraj Chavan emphasized the importance of educating boys. Justice Dere said it is very crucial to "educate the boy and save the girl," rephrasing the government slogan "Bete ko padhao, beti ko bachao" (Educate the boy, save the girl).
