Sunrisers Hyderabad's young batting sensation, Abhishek Sharma, recently explained the meaning behind his distinctive 'L' celebration, a gesture made using his thumb and index finger, which he performs after securing wins and reaching significant batting milestones. In a video shared on the Indian Premier League's (IPL) official X handle, Abhishek revealed that he and his opening partner, Travis Head, initiated this celebration.

"It is personal to us. It stands for love, we are spreading love," said Abhishek.

Discussing the importance of having his family at the stadium, Abhishek shared "My whole family, except my father, is here. It is special to me if they are able to come here and see me, and celebrate with me in such moments." he added.

Abhishek made history on Sunday by becoming the Indian batter with the most sixes in a single IPL season. During the match, he scored 66 off just 28 balls, including five fours and six sixes, achieving an impressive strike rate of 235.71.

This season, Abhishek has hit 41 sixes, surpassing Virat Kohli's record of 38 sixes in the 2016 IPL for Royal Challengers Bangalore. He also outperformed his teammates Heinrich Klaasen (33 sixes) and Travis Head (31 sixes in 2024), as well as David Warner's 31 sixes in 2016, setting a new record for SRH. West Indies legend Chris Gayle holds the overall record for most sixes in a single IPL season, with 59 sixes for RCB in 2012.

In 13 innings this season, Abhishek has scored 467 runs, ranking ninth among the highest run-scorers, with an average of 38.91 and a strike rate of 209.41. He has recorded three half-centuries, with a top score of 75*.
