Harassment Of Jain Monks In Uttarakhand Caught On Video, Leads To Legal Action

Uttarakhand: On Tuesday, a senior official announced that a video showing a man harassing two Digambar Jain monks in Uttarakhand had gone viral on social media, prompting the police to form a special task force to investigate the case.

Uttarakhand Director General of Police Abhinav Kumar stated that the culprit, a resident of the Tehri district, has been booked under sections of the Indian Penal Code and Information Technology Act.

In the video, monks are depicted sitting on a roadside railing while a man stands in front of them, taunting them with questions about why they are walking around in public without their clothes on.

The monks attempt to explain, but when he remains unconvinced, they refuse to answer any further questions and depart. Kumar stated, "The video has hurt the sentiments of Digambar Jains. Uttarakhand respects the beliefs of followers of all religions. Any disrespect to any religion is not acceptable."

Meanwhile, the Uttarakhand police have also seized their official X-handle and announced prosecution against the youth. They stated, "After a video circulating on social media depicted the behavior of a youth towards some Digambara saints, we have registered a case against the said youth under Sections 153A, 295A, and 67A of the IT Act, and we will pursue further action."

In response to the incident, the Uttarakhand Police have initiated a special task force to thoroughly investigate the matter. Kumar assured that they would take appropriate legal action against the culprit in due course.
