In a bizarre escalation of propaganda tactics, North Korea has reportedly sent large balloons filled with garbage, including used toilet paper and cigarette butts, etc into South Korea. This unusual method of cross-border messaging is part of a long-standing psychological warfare campaign between the two Koreas.

The balloons, which began appearing earlier this year, were initially feared to contain hazardous materials. However, upon inspection, South Korean authorities discovered that the contents were merely household waste and propaganda leaflets. This tactic is designed to provoke and humiliate the South, and the attached propaganda messages denounce South Korea's leadership and call for an end to anti-North broadcasts.
Interestingly, this isn't the first instance of airborne leaflet campaigns in the region. Both North and South Korea have a history of using balloons to send propaganda across the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). South Korean activists have previously launched balloons carrying anti-North Korea messages, which often infuriate the North Korean regime and have led to threats of retaliation.
